RE: Cambridge Encampment Evictions (Heatwave June 2025)

More of my thoughts and ramblings on this topic... Convieniently posted and published in no particular order!

$$ Crunching the Numbers $$
Budgets and REsources

Considerations around budgets and the broader impacts of enforcement actions are critical. Evictions deplete local available resources that could instead be redirected toward other areas by all involved.

Evictions result in a significant (and repeated) waste of agency, volunteer, and community member contributions. Additional human resources are required expended to respond to each displacement, and the costs to replace lost or damaged provisions of the residents (via community member/agency supply or the individuals themselves) further strain an already limited pool of local resources.

Municipally funded expenses spent on items like enforcement and encampment cleanups could be more effectively redirected toward proactive site maintenance—like providing waste disposal—and supports rooted in human rights approach. This shift would reduce harm while making better use of public resources.
