Dear City of Cambridge (Cc: Region of Waterloo):
Louder, for those of you in the back...
There are no shelter options!
Although the Mayor of Cambridge indicated during the September 23rd meeting that shelter beds were readily available, from what I can tell this claim is inaccurate and does not reflect the current realities our local housing support system is encountering right now. It did not offer an accurate depiction of the actual number of beds available for use within these systems.

"Wayne Paddick, executive director of the Cambridge Shelter Corp., confirmed via email The Bridges shelter is currently at capacity. Roz Gunn, YWCA Cambridge spokesperson, said the women’s shelter in Cambridge — the only shelter for women in the city — is at full capacity. Chris McEvoy, Region of Waterloo’s manager of housing policy and homelessness prevention, said he could not speak on the specifics of this ongoing encampment eviction and why outreach workers were not at the site of the eviction but generally speaking, the region’s shelter system is stretched thin. “It’s either at or near capacity on a nightly basis,” McEvoy said in a phone interview." /
