On the Right to Adequate Housing - By Peter Eglin

I was born in the summer of 1947, after the coldest English winter on record. My parents, who had grown up in the poorer housing of inner Liverpool, were on the housing list and, newly married, had moved in to what was a new estate on the outskirts of the city in the late 1930s. The estate – what we would call a subdivision – was built by local government...

 Public Input Session -
2020 Budget Proposal Details

On Monday, January 13th,  at the 7:30 PM Council meeting to hear public input on the 2020 City Budget, I presented regarding our need to address our affordable housing crisis.

Here's what I suggested.
Two main things:
1) A permanent budget line titled "Affordable Housing Initiatives Funding" to be placed in the 2020 Kitchener City Budget.
2) Publicly accessible funding available to be obtained at City level, method and use terms to be developed further by the Affordable Housing Strategy Advisory Committee, and after such approved by the City Council, in the amount of $5,000,000 over the course of the this is the next 4 years budgets. These can be used for local initiatives to access in response to housing need in support of housing creation.

Rally for Housing Justice

Hosted by Terre Chartrand

Today many areas in our community came alive. They represented unity of voice and concern about the current states of affair within our world, both far and near. One of these was the Social Justice Housing Rally that took place at City Hall in Kitchener. With the recent eviction of a local, "Pearl", many are feeling more aware of the current local housing issues and recognize the changes we must face if we are to resolve them.  We begin to focus on not only the situations of today, but while strategizing for a better tomorrow.

United.

My thoughts on housing in 2018

"The time to hesitate is through"

She said she was angry. It caught my attention.
We all introduced ourselves at the first meeting of the Advisory Committee on Affordable Housing. When my turn came, I shared my housing related experiences briefly and a few other small details. Many participants started with where they were from, work-wise: they represented local agencies and groups or committees, and others came from council chambers and the different areas that are usually included in such planning and strategizing. But when Councillor Chapman said she was in the room, having come there because she was angry, I felt that....

OOPS!!! Website was down through part of summer. (and intermittently) Life had me miss this. Finances lack at times currently to maintain site fees. Despite having removed, for now, the post regarding some School Board "concerns and affairs", make no mistake, I remain firm in all I have said and am continuing to address such matters. Updates when appropriate time to offer and as available.

Still seeking Civil representation. Please contact if interested. Fees will require discussion and flexibility.

But the struggle is real....

So this is, I suppose, where I am to tell you my story, or something to the effect of who I am today and what key points I feel brought me here.. Here go my best efforts to do so. I will add to this as I find pieces of myself that I feel qualify.
