Closing oneROOF a devastating loss to homeless youth

To read article below at The Records website CLICK HERE

As a former homeless teen, ROOF was at one time the reason I got on my feet. I am saddened to hear that a project to help homeless, troubled youth did not receive funding from the Region of Waterloo.
We continue to skirt around poverty issues. Instead, we need to build concrete solutions such as OneRoof Youth Services' supportive housing, which is being forced to close next month. OneRoof has a solution that allows at-risk youth the chance to live in a safe environment; many lack other options and will lose trust in the system that has already failed them many times.
The impact of closing OneRoof's doors will be devastating. We, the community, need to speak up for our youth and let council know that we will not let them be forgotten. The need for further support options is visible in that emergency housing beds are always full. When we consider how much has gone into the increased costs of the LRT, should we not be just as willing to invest in what's needed for our youth?
